We have two historical romance authors joining us today with those kilted heroes that we all love! Please give a warm welcome to our first guest, Christina Phillips!
The Highland Warrior Chronicles: Birth of a Nation
Who loves a Highland Warrior hero? Who doesn’t? ☺ My 20th November release, Her Savage Scot, is set in the Highlands and features a tough Scot warrior who falls in love with the one woman he can never have – Aila, princess of Pictland.
My Highland Warrior Chronicles are set in the 9th century, when the country we now know as Scotland was ruled by the Picts. The Picts are an ancient, mysterious people that we know very little about, but for hundreds of years they dominated the north. They also managed to keep the Romans from invading their land when all around them fell to the might of the Eagle.
The first mention in a Roman document of the dominant tribes in the north was in the third century. The Romans called them Picti, which may have been a variant of the name they called themselves or possibly a Latin reference to how they tattooed themselves (picti is Latin for painted people).
But during the fourth century the Scots arrived on the western coast from their land across the water – Ireland. By the sixth century they had claimed Dal Riada as their own kingdom, despite the fact that at this time the whole of the land was still under Pict rule.
Scots and Picts fought each other periodically during this time, but it wasn’t until the end of the 8th century when the Vikings first appeared on the scene that the Scots and Picts faced a common, deadly enemy.
If they wanted to survive, they needed to form an alliance. And in AD 843 that’s exactly what they did.
Her Savage Scot is set during this turbulent year, when Connor MacKenzie enters Pictland with a proposition to unite their two peoples in a royal marriage. He meets Aila, unaware that she is the princess his king demands, and against all odds they fall in love.
Blurb:
When tough Scot warrior Connor MacKenzie rides into the barbaric lands of the Picts on a mission for his king, he never expects to be captivated by a beautiful Pictish widow. Drawn under her spell, yet unaware of her true identity, he risks everything for one passionate night in her arms.Aila, princess of Pictland, swore long ago she would do anything within her power to help defeat the Vikings who invaded her land and murdered her husband. But after meeting Connor, her frozen heart thaws and once again she imagines a future filled with love and passion. When Connor delivers the message from his king, Aila becomes a pawn in a deadly game of politics. Her heart belongs to Connor, but she must marry the prince of Dal Riada – Connor’s half-brother. But the fates have other plans for the star-crossed lovers as they fight their enemies and themselves to find true love.
A Romantica® historical erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave
But by the turn of the 10th century the Picts as a separate people disappeared from history. All we have left of them are the magnificent standing stones with their intricate carvings, and written accounts from the Romans. Under the first Scot King, Kenneth MacAlpin, Pictland became known as Alba and, eventually, Scotland.
On 14th December the lovely ladies at Reading Between the Wines are hosting my cover reveal tour for Her Savage Scot. I hope you’ll pop by and enter the contest I’m holding, there are lots of fabulous prizes! And I hope you enjoy Connor and Aila’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
And now for a giveaway! I have an e-copy of my mystical Roman/Druid erotic romance, Tainted, to giveaway. This is another enemies to lovers romance, with a cynical Celtic warrior who falls for Roman patrician Antonia, who is everything he has never wanted in a woman. Just enter the rafflecopter below and leave a comment or let me know what you love about tough sexy warriors, Highlander or otherwise ☺
“…If you like raw, erotic but romantic stories with a hero you are bound to fall for and heroine you can’t help but admire, then I highly recommend Tainted. Ms. Phillips delivers the luxury of Rome, bound with the primitive earthiness of Celtic Britain and weaves a beautiful story of love that will play out perfectly in your head. ” 5 Stars Love, Lust and Lipstick Stains
