Hi Katie, it’s a pleasure having you at Reading Between the Wines today to celebrate our Erotic Romance week J
Thanks so much for having me!
First, why don’t we start by learning a little something about you; how would you describe yourself in a tweet, 140 characters or less?
Self-professed chocoholic who loves wine, the beach and flip-flops. Also, author of sexy romantic suspense, dark paranormal romance and happy endings.
Besides writing, what are some of your other passions in life?
Reading, definitely! I also love traveling. So far my favorite places have been Ireland and New Zealand. Next on my list of places to visit is Scotland.
You’re the author of several erotic romance titles, and I believe these were your first works as an author, what made you begin with that genre as opposed to the more main stream romantic suspense?
It wasn’t on purpose. I actually wrote a couple full length romantic suspense stories before trying erotic RS. Those were rejected many times so after honing my craft more, I decided to try something shorter and hotter. I loved reading erotic romance and romantic suspense so I combined my love of both subgenres and Running from the Past was born and three years later, it’s still selling copies every month.
As with everything there are going to be those that love what you do and others that won’t. As an erotic romance author have you ever experienced the negative side of this with a reader email or bad review? And if so, how did you handle it?
I’ve definitely received some reviews that made me wince. The only thing I think any author can do (or should do) is ignore negative reviews. Reading is subjective and as a writer I understand that what I write isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. Their reviews aren’t personal (or they shouldn’t be) so I don’t take them personally.
A lot of times erotic romances can leave the reader feeling a bit hot & bothered and it’s usually a good idea to have your significant other handy while reading as well *blushes*, how do smexy time scenes affect you as the author while writing them? *g*
I actually just approach the erotic scenes the same as any other scene. And more often than not, it takes me longer to write erotic scenes because so much more emotion goes into them than an action scene. The dialogue means more, the way the hero and heroine touch each other means more; everything just means more in these scenes because there’s a higher level of trust both characters are giving each other.
You have an erotic paranormal romance, Destined Mate, being released by Harlequin Nocturne (Cravings) on October 1st, can you tell us a little bit about it please?
Yes! I’m so excited about this story.
The unofficial blurb:
Almost a century ago Angela was turned into a vampire against her will so she ran from her werewolf lover rather than face his disdain for her kind. After her best friend turns up missing, she has no choice but to follow the trail straight into a den of wolves and the arms of the man she fears most.
Erotic romances can range from the more risqué romance of bondage, voyeurism and over all kinkiness to three ways and same-sex love scenes, what can we expect from Destined Mate?
You can expect a red-hot shower scene, a smartass heroine who isn’t afraid to use her teeth and an alpha wolf who’s willing to fight anyone and anything to keep his vampire lover by his side. ;)
Destined Mate features an unwilling vampire and a werewolf; do any other paranormal creatures make appearances in this supernatural world you have created? What inspired these creatures; mythology, lore, legends or your own imagination?
Nope, no other paranormal creatures in this story. My inspiration is a combination of all of the above J
Can you tell us about your main couple, Angela and Knox? What draws them to each other individually and what do you think readers will love best about them?
When they first met Angela was human and Knox’s most primal side was drawn to her vibrancy and outgoing personality. Where she was sunny and so full of life, he was a bit serious, yet she was able to get him to lighten up. And Angela loved everything he made her feel. When she was with him, she felt more alive. I think readers will love the reunited lovers’ aspect of this story.
Will this be the first in a series or will it be a single title? If it is part of a series can you tell us what we can expect from it and how many novels are planned for it?
This is the first of two related stories. The next story will be releasing early next year and will feature Knox’s second-in-command and his love interest. I’d like to write at least two more stories featuring characters from Knox’s pack so hopefully my editor will like my story ideas.
I can't wait! Thank you Katie for taking the time to join us today!
Thanks so much for having me J

Do you take on the perspective that werewolves can only be born and not made in your paranormal series? Also, what about Vampires having children? I have read a mixture of both and just wonder about your perspective.

ReplyDeleteGot so excited forgot to ask my question. Do you find it difficult to switch genres or do you just go with what you are feeling of "seeing" in your imagination for the story? Well I'm sold. I would love to read Destined Mate, sounds like fun:) Thank you for the fun hop and giveaway opportunity.
