Rosalie Lario (Guest Post & Giveaway)

Today I have one of my new favorite authors joining us today for a wonderful guest post and giveaway. She's the author of a fabulous new paranormal romance series, Demons of Infernum, please give a warm welcome to Rosalie Lario!

Confessions of a Paranormal Romance Addict

First off, I’d love to thank Crystal for inviting me to her site today. I’m so excited to be here!

In honor of my recent release, Mark of the Sylph (the second book in a paranormal romance series featuring four sexy, half-demon brothers), I thought I’d talk about how I got my intense love for paranormal romance (okay, you might even say addiction).
I’ve been fascinated with the paranormal ever since my childhood days of watching old horror movies (The Mummy, anyone? And I mean the Boris Karloff original). I lived for reruns of The Munsters on television. Tales of vampires, werewolves, and witches thrilled me almost as much as they terrified me. There was something so fun about being able to pretend that these beings actually existed.
That childhood fascination never died off for me. The Lost Boys is still one of my all-time favorite vampire movies, and Labyrinth gets rewatched every couple of years in my household. I absolutely love the 90s version of The Mummy; Brendan Frasier is irresistible as a 1920s treasure-hunter! And who could forget the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer? (Sorry you Angel fans, I’m Spike all the way.)
When I discovered romance, a whole new love was born: paranormal creatures as heroes instead of villains. There’s something magical about taking a tortured supernatural hero and giving him a HEA. Maybe it’s the idea that every being needs love—or the thought of everlasting love—that makes this concept so irresistible to me. Whatever it is, my love for paranormal romance (like so many of the genre’s heroes and heroines) will not die.
It was my love of demons as heroes that led me to create my DEMONS OF INFERNUM series. The demons in my world aren’t evil creatures from Hell, but a race of beings from another dimension. And they are super hot!

In Mark of the Sylph, half-demon Taeg is desperate to free his pregnant sister-in-law, who is spellbound to an indestructible book that will create an army of the undead. He is convinced that an ancient sword can destroy the book and the spell forever, but this relic has been hidden for a millennia by a powerful glamour. The clock begins to run out on his search when an old rival goes after the book and Taeg’s family in his quest for revenge.
Librarian Maya Flores has a secret: she’s immune to magic and is well aware of the supernatural beings prowling the streets of New York City. Haunted by a brutal demon attack that took her family, she is on a one-woman mission to destroy the evil demons who did it—and any others who get in her way.
Maya is Taeg’s best hope for uncovering the sword. Unfortunately, she wants nothing more than to kill him. As he fights for her trust and to save his family, she is forced to face the truth that not all demons are evil. And the worst part? She might be falling in love with one, too.

For all of you paranormal romance addicts out there, what is it about the genre that you find so appealing?

  5. I like paranormal romance, because it streches the boundaries of reality. Characters can do things that could never happen in real life. It makes the romance a little more dangerous, and keeps me interested.

  7. Paranormal romance books to me are just more interesting. You get your fill of sexy vampires, were-animals, and other paranormal beings as well as the romance of it all. Nothing like undying eternal love to perk up a boring day/night!

  8. I am looking forward to Mark of the Sylph (Demons of Infernum #2)! Congrats on the release.

I like that in the paranormal genre the possibilities for love is endless. You can lose it and still have hope of getting it back. The stakes are higher and so is the danger.

  10. Aha! Maya definitely seemed to be channeling some Buffy! I just finished MotS and absolutely loved it - now I must must must read Keenan's story!

As for PNR, I think I love it because it's pure escapism. Sexy heroes, supernatural abilities, and out of this world adventures that usually have a happy ending (in more ways than one!).

And holy cow, RBtW, your sidebar Smexy Goodness slider should come with a health disclaimer. Some of those are HOT HOT HOT!

Denise, I'm a sucker for hope. That's why I need that happy ending. :-)

Valerie, I agree with you that PNR characters add a level of interest to a read. I personally love them!

Na, you said it. The stakes are generally higher in PNR.

  13. Paranormal Romance is a new love for me and I enjoy it because my imagination runs wild. I know that something will happen out of the ordinary and that intrigues me. Not to mention, the characters have added depth.

  14. What I love about paranormal reads are all the different paranorms that are out there. I like how each author can decide what characteristics she wants them to have. And I must not leave out the fact that the alpha male parnorms are the sexiest creatures out there.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  15. Lady Lex, I've also found that PNR characters have added depth, usually from their dark backgrounds.

Victoria, there's nothing sexier than a PNR Alpha Male!

  16. I like paranormal because you can stretch your imagination. You can imagine any type of creature or place and it is there. You can imagine any type of story that would not normally happen and there's the story. There is so much you can do with paranormal. There is no limit to your imagination. Please enter me in contest. I would love to read this book. Tore923@aol.com

  17. Paranormal lets you imagine outrageous things/people/places and not be bound by reality. I too started by watching movies like the original "The Mummy" and then reading books like "Frankenstein". Paranormal romance combines my love for romance and paranormal elements.

  18. I love that in paranormals, the authors can create any world they want, the characters, settings, etc only limited by their imaginations. Each author that I love has a unique story to tell.

  19. Tore, Marianne and June, thanks for stopping by! Marianne, sounds like we're in the same boat. I still love watching those old horror movies (much more so than the new trend toward ultra-gory horror). :-)

  20. I love paranormal because of the imagination.. I love to imagine the big hulky to the creepy.. I love the way that the heroes and heroies find each other..Man what do I NOT love??

  21. Back before I knew about paranormal romances, I think it was the mild spook factor. Paranormal romance has the otherness about it, the departure from the ordinary with slightly scary alpha males wh are so intriguing.

  22. I love paranormal romance because you never know what you're going to get. Anything goes and that leaves room for a lot of surprises. :D

  24. In the shifter and vamp romances they are usually "soul mates". I just love
    the idea of that possibility.

  26. I love the utter escapism of the paranormal. There are no boundaries; instead there is magic and power and freedom for imagination. Where antiheroes are the heroes. There is darkness and light. It's a wonderful blend.

  28. I like to escape reality when I read, and that's why I love the paranormal genre. Now, if there are hot guys involved whether they be vampires or werewolves/shifters or other paranormal creatures, all the better! So, yes, PNR is my favourite genre!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  29. For all of you paranormal romance addicts out there, what is it about the genre

Paranormal addict definitely describes me. I have always been drawn to the unimaginable-magical world. Probably explains why I loved Bewitched, Adams Family, and The Munsters so much. My first taste of paranormal books was so enticing-intriguing that I couldn't help but be hooked. I mean vampires who are written as the hero instead of the villain? Don't get me started on shifters...they are so alpha-what romance reader wouldn't fall for a wolf shifter or lion shifter. I will always be a paranormal fan. Thanks for the giveaway!

  30. I've always been interested in the paranormal and it seems as soon as you open that door so much more is possible in a story and it really draws me in. :)

  31. I guess what I love about PNR is the wide variety of stories and lead characters (both male and female). It really is limited only by the writer's imagination and I love that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. What I find so appealing about Paranormal Romance is probably the alpha male type heroes because their character traits can be more extreme and still be totally acceptable and lovable. Also, usually Paranormal Romances have incredible world-building in them and really makes for a great reading experience.
