Please welcome erotic romance author Emily Cale over!
Weddings are full of traditions and folklore. These days, it is not uncommon for me to go to wedding and find a list in the back of the program of the various cultures and beliefs that are being incorporated into the service. Though many of my friends combine religions and cultures for the actual wedding, I don't know any who have tried to push this into the wedding night.
Yes, there plenty of traditions involving the wedding night. Some seem fun while others seem downright embarrassing. Most have gone by the wayside, but I wouldn't be surprised to find a few still being practiced.
In Ireland, the new couple would spend their wedding night in a barn. Before being allowed to crawl between the sheets together, the guests would first try to delay them as long as possible. Each male guest would get a kiss from the bride and after the line was finished, they would continue making noise outside and providing distractions long into the night.
In Western Africa, the sheets of the newlyweds are inspected the next morning for blood stains (proof of the woman's virginity). There is often extra dowry involved after this proof is provided. I've also heard that it is not uncommon for the bedding to be hung up as a flag to show the entire community how pure the daughter was.
In some Polynesian cultures, it is rumored that the new bride has intercourse with all the male guest before getting to consummate the marriage with her husband.
If you'd like to read a story that involves none of the above customs but tells the story of one hot wedding night, my newest release, Honeymoon Suite, is now available!
Laurie had practically given up on finding someone who was willing to save sex for marriage. Then she found Matt, an amazingly wonderful and sexy man who was willing to wait until after they said “I do.” Now that the ceremony and reception have finally ended, she can’t wait to get him up to their hotel room, hang up the “Do Not Disturb” sign and spend the night acting out all the dirty fantasies that have filled her head since their engagement.Matt can’t think of anything he wants more than to please his new wife. She’s always been shy and private, but on their wedding night, she turns into an irresistible vixen. Nothing would make him happier than spending the entire night exploring every curve of her luscious body.The two newlyweds are finally alone together and the whole evening lies ahead. Laces and buttons come undone…and Matt and Laurie discover some things are most definitely worth waiting for.

I am so thankful I live in modern times in a cosmopolitan place when it comes to some of those bridal customs. Although, I guess if you're brought up with them being normal...

I always find different wedding traditions so fascinating. My brother had a Celtic Wedding, but there was no staying in the barn for the wedding night. (-;
ReplyDeleteThe story sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
