Tour: Disappear by Mary Martinez (Guest Post/Giveaway)

I'd like to welcome author, Mary Martinez, who is joining us with a tasty post today while on tour for her book, Disappear

Thank you for having me here on Reading Between the Wines. You have no idea how excited I was when I saw this on my itinerary for my Bewitching Book tour.

I will be at various blogs throughout the month; the last day is June 4th. To keep things from becoming too boring, I’m trying to do a bit of a story of myself, hobbies, writing, projects, etc. The tour started with a review, then the next day I did a bit about my background. And today my love affair with wine. You can check out my itinerary on my web site.

I’m such a wine snob. I mean look at my web site, I’m relaxing at Red Butte Botanical Gardens enjoying a glass of wine.

And my other love of course is a good book. I can’t think of a better way to pass the time of day, relaxing in a garden glass of wine in hand reading a book.

Where it all began? I started drinking wine because all my friends did, but I really didn’t like the taste so I drank—I apologize for my bad taste—white zinfandel. Nowadays, it’s not considered poor taste to drink a ‘blush’ wine. However, I remember seeing a shirt that said “Friends don’t let friends drink white Zin.” Anyway, I was clueless, I didn’t know any better.

I’d always wanted to go to Napa valley, and so did some of our friends so of course we planned a trip. We pitched in for a limo, the driver was awesome, he picked us up in San Francisco then drove us to Napa and stopped wherever we wanted. He did recommend a place that had a deli and picnic area for lunch we couldn’t have found a better place. Since then I’ve been to Napa, Sonoma and Calistoga many times. Of course, my sister-in-law and her husband now live in Calistoga, that is very helpful on the budget, we can spend our money on wine instead of hotels.

The experience opened my eyes to the wonderful treat of wine. I love all kinds of wine, red, white, blush. And I’ve learned that just because the price of a bottle is high does not necessarily mean it’s good. You have to go by your own preference. I also will not drink boxed wine. I know they keep saying they’re getting better. I don’t believe it.

The first thing I learned when we traveled to Italy was how to ask for rosso vino della casa—Red house wine. Wonderful experience, my travels is another day another blog.

Now you know about one of my hobbies, and yes finding the best wine is my hobby. My husband and I never take our own bottle of wine to a restaurant because we are always on the lookout for the next best bottle.

Thank you for letting me ramble about my wine fetish. I’m sure I forgot to mention this Bewitching Book Tour is in behalf of my the first book, Disappear, of The Beckett Series. Actually the entire series, the next two books will be out soon. Hope to see you throughout the month.

  3. I have to admit that I've never had wine before and not because I am not old enough to drink it. I just don't know where to start, but it does sound like something especially nice to drink while reading:) I'll definitely be adding The Beckett Series to my wishlist!

  4. I've tried wine, many, many types of wine and have never found one that does not taste like vinegar to me. I've been told that it's the tannins and my taste buds, but who knows. So I don't really drink.
    The book sounds interesting.

  5. I like a lightly sweet wine too. I'll be in Virginia wine country in another week & plan to go to one of my favorite wineries to stock up with their Pear Port. It's lovely to have a glass with cheese & fruit.
I very much enjoy a romantic suspense, so hope to be reading this book soon (hint hint).
