Event: Tie Me Up in July with Shayla Black (Interview/Giveaway)

When you think of books that are erotic with a BDSM flavor, the name Shayla Black comes to mind. So crack out those handcuffs, we know you already have the wine and welcome Shayla to the blog today!

Shayla: Thanks for having me here, Lexi! It’s a pleasure, especially if you have wine. 

Lexi: Oh don't worry, we have the wine!

Shayla, you are one of those authors who has been blessed by the cover gods. Your new release “Arresting Desire”, which is included in the book Hot in Handcuffs, fits right in with your drool-worthy covers. Do you have a favorite out of all your books?

Shayla: I don’t, actually. I like most all of them for different reasons. Some favorites are the first in the Wicked Lovers series, Wicked Ties, simply because I LOVE red. I’m also really fond of the cover for the latest in the series, Mine To Hold. It’s super romantic. I also really love the covers for Their Virgin Captive, the first of the Masters of Ménage series, as well as the first in my new collaborative series, The Doms of Her Life. That title is One Dom to Love and should be out in September. I’m fortunate that I have a lot of control over my covers, and I think they’re largely a reflection of what I’d like them to be.

Lexi: A hard choice, I know, when you have written as many books as you have. This summer will be busy for you with three releases, and then next summer you get to start a new series. Are you getting excited about your new series, or are you too busy with Arresting Desire at the moment?

Shayla: Actually, more releases this summer than that. Embrace Me At Dawn released May 29, followed by Mine To Hold on June 5, then Hot in Handcuffs July 3. Strictly Forbidden is my third historical re-release, and it should be out by the end July. Their Virgin Concubine, the third book of the Masters of Ménage series will be out in early August. One Dom To Love, as I said, will be out in early September. Whew! I’m actually still focused on all these releases, but I’m thinking about my Project Alpha series, which is set to debut next summer. I’ll start writing the first one shortly!

Lexi: You write characters across the board, paranormal to military to FBI. What do you think is the easiest type of hero to write?

Shayla: The easiest hero to write is the one who’s taking to me. The background details don’t matter, just whether or not he’s communicating with me (in my head) as I’m plotting and writing the book.

Lexi: Your books tend to have BDSM themes (super hot for those who haven’t checked out Shayla’s books yet). If I am in the mood for an erotic read, I know your books will not disappoint. Do you enjoy reading erotic books, or since you write it do you stick to reading other genres?

Shayla: I actually write in four genres. Erotic just happens to be one of them. But yes, I do enjoy writing erotic romances. I read other genres, as well. Erotic happens to be a favorite.

Lexi: Most men like it if their significant other reads these hot books. How does your husband react to being married to a woman who writes it? I am guessing there has been some smug bragging to the guys here and there.

Shayla: Not really. My husband is very quiet and private. He’s not a bragger or a fist bumper or any of that. He just looks at me and smiles, and that’s more than enough for me.

Lexi: It is only right he brag you up and be proud of you, with all your published works and awards that is quite the accomplishment. Here’s hoping you will have many, many more!

Shayla: He’s very supportive, and I’m quite lucky.
