It's here, it's here! It's finally that day folks! Time for the witches and goblins, princesses and fairies, and all of those fantastical creatures to roam the streets free. It's Halloween! And what better day to have a vampire join our party. Hmm...or perhaps something a little more celestial?
Lucy Weston from Emma Cornwall’s “Incarnation”
What does a reluctant halfling vampire still trying to come
to terms with her new nature don to celebrate Halloween? After coming forward to reveal the circumstances
of my transformation into a child of the dark, I am definitely in need of a
respite. There are Halloween parties
galore all over vampiric London but what to wear? Obviously, fangs would be a terrible cliché. I don’t look terribly good in black so that’s
out, too. I have a wardrobe stuffed with lovely ball gowns but they are mostly
from my pre-transformation days and something tells me that showing up at a
vampire party disguised as a human might not be the best idea. That leaves…
Fluff out the feathers, dust off the glitter, garb me in luminous white. I’m going as an angel! Yes, I know, some will say that’s in the worst possible taste but fie on them. My conscience, such as it is, is clear…for the moment.

Set in the steampunk world of Victorian London, INCARNATION, reimagines Lucy Weston, the vampire from Bram Stoker’s legendary vampire tale Dracula, as a reluctant vampire desperate to seek out the author and set the record straight. If one is to believe Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Lucy Weston is a most wanton creation: a sexual creature of the night who preys on innocent boys. But the real-life Lucy is nothing like her fiction counterpart—and she demands to know why the Victorian author deliberately lied.
With Stoker’s reluctant help, Lucy is determined to track down the very fiend who transformed her—from the sensual underworld where humans vie to become vampires, to a hidden cell beneath a temple to madness, and finally into the glittering Crystal Palace where death reigns supreme.Haunted by fragmentary memories of her lost life and love, Lucy must battle her thirst for blood as she struggles to stop a catastrophic war that will doom vampires and humans alike. Ultimately, she must make a choice that illuminates for her—and for us—what it means to be human.
