I am very excited to welcome paranormal romance author, Dianne Duvall, back to RBtWBC today for the release of the third book in her fantastic Immortal Guardians series, Phantom Shadows! And a very happy release day to Dianne, Phantom Shadows is available today!
Thank
you for letting me visit again, Crystal!
I’m so excited to be here!
PHANTOM SHADOWS, the third book in my Immortal Guardians series, is now
available! Woohoo! I thought I would help readers get to know
Bastien, the hero, through a character interview.
In
case you’re new to my Immortal Guardians, I’ll just take a moment to explain
that the vampires and immortals in my series are both infected with a rare
symbiotic virus that produces the increased speed, strength, and regenerative
properties, as well as the photosensitivity and need for blood, that both
possess. Vampires are humans who have
been infected with the virus. They
suffer brain damage that causes them to rapidly descend into madness. Immortals are gifted ones, men and
women born with advanced DNA, who have been infected with the virus. Their advanced DNA protects them from the
madness and bestows upon them special abilities that help them as they hunt the
maddened vampires who prey upon humans.
An
extensive network of humans aids the immortals, including Seconds (personal
guards). One such Second will be
interviewing Bastien today:
Sheldon: Hey, man.
Bastien: Sheldon.
Where is everybody?
Sheldon: Okay, here’s the thing. You’re being interviewed don’t kill me.
Bastien: Who’s doing what now?
Sheldon: You’ve probably heard about the other
immortals being interviewed to help the network employees get to know them
better?
Bastien: Yes.
Sheldon: Well, you’re next. I’m here to interview you.
Bastien: Yeah, right.
Why are you really here? Did
Richart send you to irritate me?
Sheldon: Dude, I’m here to interview you.
Bastien: You know damned well no one is interested in
getting to know me better.
Sheldon: True.
But Seth has mandated it, so . . . here I am.
Bastien: Still trying to force people to like me?
Sheldon: Seth’s a good guy.
Bastien: And I’m not.
Sheldon: Few would disagree with you there. Look, I’m not here to judge, just to ask
questions.
Bastien: You say this was Seth’s idea?
Sheldon: Yes.
Bastien: *sighs heavily* Fine.
Shoot.
Sheldon: First question. When did you first realize that you’re Satan?
Bastien: *deadpan*
Funny.
Sheldon: Absolutely humorless. Fine.
You’re the only man whoever truly succeeded in both raising and controlling
– mostly – an army of vampires.
Considering the fact that vampires are driven insane by the virus that
infects them and are pretty much psychotic, how did you manage that?
Bastien: Not very well, apparently, or there would be
no Immortal Guardians.
Sheldon: You really wanted to kill them all?
Bastien: Yes.
Sheldon: Why?
Bastien: Vengeance.
Sheldon: So . . .
Okay . . . Maybe I’ll leave that
part out of it.
Bastien: It will make little difference.
Sheldon: Dr. Lipton mentioned that you visit the
vampires at the network often.
Bastien: *Face lightens with interest* Melanie – Dr. Lipton mentioned me?
Sheldon: Yeah.
She said she sees you almost every day.
Bastien: Yes.
Sheldon: *stares*
Dude, are you smiling?
Bastien: No.
Sheldon: I’m pretty sure you’re smiling.
Bastien: What’s your point?
Sheldon: Nothing.
It’s just . . . weird. And a
little creepy. Anyway, what do you think
about Melanie?
Bastien: I think she’s the most courageous person I’ve
ever met.
Sheldon: Really?
Bastien: Yes.
Sheldon: Because she stands up to YOUR evil ass?
Bastien: Because she works every day alongside
vampires who could suffer violent psychotic breaks at any moment. The virus that infects vampires causes brain
damage in all humans infected with it.
But that brain damage progresses more swiftly in some than in
others. As does the accompanying
insanity.
Sheldon: I actually didn’t know that. I thought it always followed the same time
frame.
Bastien: Living among maddened vampires for two
centuries taught me something different.
Melanie – Dr. Lipton has been tirelessly searching for a cure or a way
to prevent the madness ever since she graduated from medical school.
Sheldon: I thought she was new. She’s been with the network that long?
Bastien: Yes.
And, when Chris Reordon asked her if she would be willing to work
hands-on with three vampires, one of whom was already descending into madness,
she didn’t hesitate despite the monumental risk to herself. She’s mortal.
They could kill here in less than a second. Many of her male counterparts shake in their
boots whenever they must work with the vampires. Melanie never quails.
Sheldon: You just called her Melanie again.
Bastien: Dr. Lipton.
Sheldon: You have it bad for her, don’t you?
Bastien: I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Sheldon: Dude, I walked in on the two of you *swallows
when Bastien’s eyes flash a brilliant amber as his fangs descend*
Bastien: You walked in on . . . what?
Sheldon: Not a damned thing. And, if anyone asks, that’s what I’ll
say. Thanks for the interview.
Bastien: You’re welcome.
Sheldon: I’m out.
Dr. Melanie Lipton is no stranger to the supernatural. She knows immortals better than they know themselves, right down to their stubborn little genes. So although a handsome rogue immortal seems suspicious to her colleagues, Sebastien Newcombe intrigues Melanie. His history is checkered, his scars are impressive, and his ideas are daring. But it's not his ideas that have Melanie fighting off surges of desire. . .Bastien is used to being the bad guy. In fact, he can't remember the last time he had an ally he could trust. But Melanie is different--and under her calm, professional exterior he senses a passion beyond anything in his centuries of experience. Giving in to temptation is out of the question--he can't put her in danger. But she isn't asking him. . .
And
don’t miss my big kindle contest. I’m
giving away THREE Kindles (or Kindle Gift Cards if you already have one) to
celebrate the release of PHANTOM SHADOWS.

Thank
