This morning I would like to give a very warm welcome to author, Shona Husk, who is joining us with her upcoming release from Ellora's Cave, Saved by the Trickster!
Magic and
Tricksters
Several
years ago I watched ‘The Prestige’. It’s
a film about two competing magician’s each trying to come up with the most
complex and unbelievable tricks. It was fascinating and it sparked an idea.
Magicians as we know them are trying to make us believe they can do the
impossible, but what if there was a magician whose problem was making the
impossible look believable.
Instead of
creating complex tricks to fool us into believing, they were using props and
making a show so that real magic became something that we could grasp instead
of staring in disbelief. A place where magic is real and yet if people were
shown it in its purest form they wouldn’t believe, so the magician has to make
it look like something the audience could unravel if they watched close enough.
From that
idea Lysanna the Trickster was born.
She might be
an almost immortal demi-god, but in the eyes of the people she is just a
traveling magician and few know of her true powers. And while she is tempted to
show them all what she can really do, she knows it would serve no purpose. She
is caught between magic and reality and somehow has to bridge the gap.
Creating her
show and tricks was a lot of fun…as was giving her a rather hot assistant with
his own troubles. But a little bit of magic goes a long way to saving them
both.
In a world of cold and Darkness, Lysanna is Trickster, a demi-god charged with making people believe in Light and hope. She travels the world creating magic and wonder, taking human assistants to help on stage and warm her bed. Somehow they always betray her, and they always leave.
Zander is a fallen Celestial warrior. Cast out of heaven, he has been given one month to earn his way back. When he meets Lysanna he knows what she is. What he doesn’t expect is to discover the pleasures of being human and the burning lust he finds in the Trickster’s bed. Returning to heaven begins to lose its appeal, but he has a duty to fight the Darkness and he can’t let it consume the world. He may have to choose between duty and Lysanna.
Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories. As an adult she discovered romance novels and hasn’t looked back. Drawing on history and myth, she weaves new worlds and writes heroes who aren’t afraid to get hurt while falling in love.
With stories ranging from sensual to scorching, she is published with Carina Press, Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing and Sourcebooks.
