Four years ago, Mitch Lawson moved across the breezeway from Mara Hanover and she fell in love with the tall, good-looking police detective who had an uncanny ability to dress well even though he’s single. It was not a stalker kind of love; she knows she has no hope since Mitch is way out of her league. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s her dream man.
Then one day Mara’s faucet won’t turn off and she knows nothing about plumbing. Being a good guy, Mitch offers to help then he invites himself over for pizza. Mara gives it a go but finds herself running away from him (literally) on their first date, standing him up their second and then she runs into him (again literally) on her way to save her ne’er do well, criminal cousin’s kids who’d just run away from their ne’er do well, criminal Dad.
Suddenly, Mara finds she has on her hands the guardianship of two kids and a gorgeous police detective who’s willing to do anything to help out… including giving fabulous foot rubs.
But Mara knows who she is and where she came from and she knows Detective Mitch Lawson is better than her. Hot law man Mitch disagrees and his challenge is to convince Mara to let go of her past and he sets about building a family at the same time he finds he also needs to protect them all against known and unknown adversaries that would tear them apart.

Crystal L's Thoughts:

Mara Hanover took one look at tall, dark, and handsome Mitch Lawson when he moved in across the hall and fell in love with him. Too bad that she's like a 2, maybe a 3, and he's a 10. On her scale, they'll never match up. He belongs with drop dead women who rate at least an 8, but he really deserves a 10. So she's just going to keep her head down, go about living her life, working her job, and watch as the gorgeous Detective runs a parade of women in and out of his apartment. Of course her nice quiet life is thrown into chaos when her cousins, Billy and Billie, run away from their drunken addict of a father, to her for help. Now she has custody of two young children that she adores beyond reason, and for some odd reason, Mitch keeps trying to help her. No matter how many times she tries to nicely push him away, he just keeps coming back.

Mitch Lawson has watched to gorgeous quiet woman across the hall for years, but she's never given him a chance. Hell, she won't even look at him when they're in the hall together. One day she inadvertantly gives him that in, and he's not going to let her piddly attempts to push him away to keep him from the promise of what he sees in her. Now if he can just keep her and the kids safe from the trouble Billy and Billie's addict father brings into their lives, while dissuading her of these crazy ass 'scale' ideas she's got stuck in her head, then everything will be alright.

Love me some Mitch!

Favorite Quote:

“Best thing that ever happened to me, that shredded washer," he whispered.

"Too bad I didn't know what a washer was or I would have shredded it myself," I whispered back and he burst out laughing.”

Hell, if I had a Mitch Lawson across the hall, I'd shred my freakin' washer too! Excellent addition to a phenomenal series! 5 Wine Glass Toast. But beware peeps... the best is yet to come!
