Tour: Katie Reus' Mating Instinct (Interview/Giveaway)

Planning a vacation or a destination for spring break? Before you go, check out our guest today and see what hot new book should be on your packing checklist. Welcome Katie Reus!

KR: Thank you so much for having me!

Lexi: I have some excellent wine here with me on the soft white sand of Puerto Rico, glad you could take a break from your hectic life of writing, promoting, and chasing your son to join us. Do you plan to take a break after the release of Mating Instinct?

KR: Pass some of that wine, please! Ah, a break, I wish. From now until roughly November I’m slammed with work on proposals, books to write for NAL, and books to write in my Red Stone Series. I’ve also got something else in the works that I can’t talk about just yet. ;)

Lexi: Sneaky woman...say that and leave us hanging.
Do you find yourself doing more promotion for your Moon Shifter series the more releases you have?

KR: It’s actually about the same, actually. If anything, I might be promoting even a little less because my reader base has grown and I have more books to write. And to me, writing more books will always be more important.

Lexi: Novel number four is quickly approaching. Mating Instinct, book three, comes out March 5th. Have you started working on the next novella or novel for the series?

KR: Oh yeah, Avenger’s Mate, number 4, is already turned in to my editor. There’s even a sneak peek of Avenger’s Mate at the end of Mating Instinct. Novella 3.5 is finished and turned in too. But very soon I plan to start working on the outline for book #5. Hee, it’s due next month so I need to get cracking!

Lexi: I remember seeing a comment from you about the unexpected ebook path your work has taken. Is this series a nice mix, some novellas with the rest available in traditional print?

KR: Yes, the Moon Shifter series is a good mix, at least for me and I hope my readers. Some days I just want to read something I can actually finish before bed so I love that I’m able to give novellas to my readers too. The novellas feature characters that otherwise wouldn’t get full length stories so it’s nice to show different sides of life within the Armstrong-Cordona pack.

Lexi: Has your expedience into ebook publication changed your reading habits?

KR: Ha, I think becoming a mother has actually changed my reading habits. I take my kindle with me everywhere. It’s so much easier to take one slim device that holds thousands of books and tuck it into my purse instead of worrying about finding a book before running out the door.

Lexi: My reading preferences will always be print, but for you I make an exception! I can't wait to start reading Mating Instinct!

KR: Thank you, I’m glad to hear that! I can’t wait until it finally releases And thanks so much for having me here today! I’d love to give away one print copy of Mating Instinct (US only) to one random commenter.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

A year later, an attack that left Kat near death has resulted in another lupine shifter turning her. Furious that he wasn’t the one to save her, Jayce is determined to show Kat that he is the one she should rely on. But the newly turned shifter is still traumatized and worried that she’ll hurt those she loves, unless she can learn to control her inner wolf.

About Katie Reus:
Katie fell in love with romance at a young age thanks to books she pilfered from her mom’s stash. Years later she loves reading romance almost as much as she loves writing it. However, she didn’t always know she wanted to be a writer. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and working too many jobs she hated, she finally figured things out.

She now spends her days writing dark paranormal romance and sexy romantic suspense. Her publishers include Carina Press, Harlequin Nocturne, Ellora’s Cave and NAL/Signet Eclipse (Penguin). Regardless of genre, she always includes a happy ending. When she’s not creating stories she loves spending time with her husband and family.

  6. I generally prefer full novels to novellas and there has been a big surge of novellas out lately; however, if the novella adds back-story or a little more insight into the series, I am all for it. My requirement, if its a good story regardless of the length I want to read it :) Thank you for sharing with us.

  7. I prefer novels but novellas, about the series, can fill in the gap between novels nicely!

  8. I like novellas that catch you up on past characters that do not necessarily fit within the story of in a novel.

  20. It seems like a mix of novels and novellas is becoming more common. I'm fine with it, I'll take a good story any way I can get it.

  21. I love the mix of novels and novellas. novels are much better, but only novellas can give you more details about the characters that just couldn't be fit into the full novel without leaving something important out

  26. I love the mix of both together. Some characters are great to have full stories, especially when they are new to each other. Others all they need is just a short one to reaquaint each other. I love them also cause sometimes I need a quick fix or a short read.
Thanks for the giveaway. I love this series.

I love a mix of novels and novellas - the novellas sometimes provide a nice look into side characters' lives or cute moments with the main characters!

  29. I like having novellas and novels, especially when the novellas provide supplemental information on a character, a different point of view or deleted scenes. I feel novellas enhance the overall story of the series. Thanks for the giveaway. dsr002(at)gmail(dot)com

  30. I haven't read any of this series yet but it sounds great!

I usually read the Novellas if they are part of a series and add a little extra something to it. But I still prefer full size books.

  31. The Moon Shifter series sounds sexy and exciting. I like the idea of novellas to tell the story of characters who won't get their own full length story. I'm a real series junkie and sometimes they have minor character that I wish to get to known more about. The novellas are also a nice way to get your fix while awaiting on the next Full length.
