No Turning Back by HelenKay Dimon (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Thank you for having me here today to talk about my upcoming release, NO TURNING BACK (out March 19th).  This book launches a new single title contemporary romance series and I'm thrilled to talk about it. 

Part of the fun of starting a new book is putting all the settings and characters together in my head.  At some point my publisher's art department asks for photos and ideas about the book so someone can get started on making a cover.  Knowing this is coming, one of the things I now do when I start writing is collect photos to put the visual inspiration in my head.


This is a new system for me.  I never used to go through images.  Then I figured out I was a visual person.  Yeah, that one took me longer to realize than you would think. I don't put characters together in my head by saying, "he looks like X actor."  Rather, I develop a look, characteristics, a backstory and everything I need for a character then go out looking for photographs, of famous people or not, that match what I have in my head. It's not a perfect system, but it helps the art department and me…and who doesn’t like looking at photos of pretty people?

With all that build-up I thought you might want to see the visual inspirations I used for the hero and heroine for this book.  For Declan, the hero, I needed someone fit with that Tall, Dark and Hottie look. I thought Niall Matter (from the TV show Eureka) came close:

 

He's cute, right? Then I needed a fiery redhead to be his match, Leah. Strong, pretty, maybe a little cool, but totally self-possessed…and movie actress Jessica Chastain came to mind:

 

I'll let you decide how close the couple on the cover of NO TURNING BACK matches my image. :)
