Please give a warm welcome to a few fabulous authors from the new DATE BY MISTAKE anthology!
I am the last person you'd ever want to ask what to keep in your purse… because honestly, it won't be there for long. I have this (bad) habit of losing my purse. Been that way since high school. I'm not sure what it is, but I'll just set my purse down somewhere and forget about it. And it doesn't matter if it's an expensive purse or something cheap (I've tried working that rationale). If it's a purse and I put it somewhere, it's going to be lost or stolen.
So, after losing it twice* in one year, I made this bet with my husband that I'd wear a fanny pack for a year if I lost it again (in an attempt at adverse psychology). I guess I don't need to tell you the rest of the story.
My year of wearing a fanny pack is almost over, when, for Christmas, my daughter who was about 6 or so at the time, gives me this bright teal fanny pack. She was with my mom at the mall when she spotted it. She fell in LOVE with it, and thought it the most beautiful thing (her mom HAS been wearing a fanny pack in her purse formative years I suppose) and just knows I will LOVE it, too. My mom tried to talk her out of it, but no.
So anyway, I had to wear a fanny pack for another year.
*I say twice because this doesn't factor in the times I left I purse and went back and it was still there. My sister-in-law reminds me of a time I called her late at night to retrieve my purse from a restaurant . She'd been coloring her hair and had to go with a towel wrapped around her head.
Top Ten List for Dates by Candace Havens
This is fun. It really depends on the kind of date. A third date might require different items than a blind date. But in general:
1. Small toothbrush and toothpaste (spinach in teeth is not sexy)
2. Breath mints, because who wants to give up garlic for a man?
3. Small makeup bag w/lipstick/gloss/powder/small thing of vanilla perfume/extract (men LOVE this smell)and those little blotters.
4. Cell phone, with a pre-plan of at 8 p.m. your BFF will call and check in. At 9, your other Bff will call and check in. He knows what's happening, unless he's an idiot, but this is a necessity in case you need to exit stage left.
5. Girl stuff (expect the worst, and pray it doesn't happen)
6. CONDOMS don't leave home without them. You just never know. And safe sex is a necessity.
7. Make up remover, in case No. 6 ends up in the walk of shame.
8. Protein bar (um, to keep up your energy for No. 6. Or if the food is bad.)
9. Cash and a credit card.
10. Your I.D. just in case it turns into a wild night and you end up in jail.
Gwen Hayes - Things have changed so much since I actually dated. For instance, I used to always have a quarter for the payphone. Now that I sound super old... I'd bring:
1. My phone. Also helpful for quick texts to BFF to call with an "emergency" to get out of date if necessary.
2. Small compact for food-stuck-in-teeth check
3. Credit card in case he's a schmuck and makes you pay.
4. Car keys--if it's your first or second date, you might want to be your own driver.
5. Lipstick if you wear it. I don't.
6. breath mints
7. Kindle--I take it everywhere. You never know!
8. emergency cash
9. small make-up remover moist towels for a less obvious walk of shame the next morning if things go better than expected

I was very bad for this when I was younger. In my late teens/early twenties I actually left it at my grandparent's house on Christmas Eve and did not realize it until I was about 45 minutes away, and had to turn around to go back for it, lol.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a lot of fun :) Thanks for the awesome post! Knock on wood, I've never left my purse anywhere or have had it stolen.
