Crystal: The end of the week has finally rolled back around and we have a wonderful lady joining us today to kick it off, please raise your glasses for paranormal romance author, Sara Humphreys!
Sara: Hello! Thank you so very much for hosting me here today :)
Crystal: You recently released the first book in a new series - Tall, Dark, and Vampire. Congratulations, by the way! Is it at all scary or intimidating starting a new series after being immersed in the world of the Amoveo Legend for the last few years?
Sara: It's a bit of both. I'm really excited for readers to meet the vampires in NYC and I'm hopeful that everyone will fall in love with them. However, there is the fear that people won't love the vamps as much as I do or as much as they enjoy my Amoveo shifters. Fingers crossed!
Crystal: I'll cross my toes for you too but I'm sure you won't need it! ☺ With the Dead in City series, have you strived for anything different while writing, compared to The Amoveo Legend series? Any new techniques that you wanted to try your hand at or differences that you learned from writing your first series?
Sara: I strive to get better with every book. I want to be a better writer and give readers the most powerful experience possible. The biggest challenge is to keep things fresh and interesting.
Crystal: The Dead in the City series is set in New York City and based on a coven of female vampires, and you're a New York resident yourself! ☺ Have you weaved any personal experiences into your storyline by chance?
Sara: I've been to clubs in the city and have certainly pounded the NYC pavement during the wee hours, so I suppose some personal experience is woven in there. I hope that I give readers a vivid depiction of NYC at night.
Crystal: I've always wanted to visit NYC. *sigh* One day! ☺ There is something about second chances at love that I just cannot get enough of. But interestingly enough, Olivia's, the heroine of your story, second chance comes through reincarnation. Did you do any research into to this subject while writing?
Sara: I read some personal accounts online but most of it came from my own imagination and asking myself …"What if?" Reincarnation is a fascinating idea and I wanted to explore what it would be like to reconnect with someone who'd been gone for centuries.
Crystal: Vampires have been around in the literary world for a long time now and are a favorite with readers, especially this one! There are so many paths that you can take with their mythology while writing. Have you put your own spin on the vampire mythos here?
Sara: I didn't want to waver too much from traditional vampire lore but at the same time, I wanted to give it my own spin. I created my own vampire government as part of the mythology and the vamps in world aren't all gorgeous and perfect. For example, the weapons master is a dwarf named Xavier and he's one of Olivia's oldest friends. All of my vamps were just regular people who happened to be turned into vampires. The biggest twist would be the Bloodmate Legend. According to their lore, all vampires have a Bloodmate and if they bond with their mate, then both become Daywalkers---vampires who can walk in the sun. However, most vampires think it's just a fairytale that they tell new vampires after they're turned but Olivia and Doug may prove it be to true....
Crystal: Wow, sounds like an intriguing twist and I will definitely be check out Tall, Dark, and Vampire myself! Thank you so much for taking the time to join us today, Sara. I look forward to more of your NYC vampire chicks in the future!
Sara: Thank you for having me! I love to hear from my readers and I'm on Facebook all the time, so I hope they'll come by and say hi :)
TALL, DARK, AND VAMPIRE BY SARA HUMPHREYS – IN STORES AUGUST 2013
Goodreads - Amazon - Kindle - B&N - iTunes - Book Depository
She always knew Fate was cruel...The last person Olivia expected to turn up at her club was her one true love. It would normally be great to see him, except he's been dead for centuries. Olivia really thought she had moved on with her immortal life, but as soon as she sees Doug Paxton, she knows she'd rather die than lose him again. And that's a real problem...
But this is beyond the pale...Doug is a no-nonsense copy by day, but his nights are tormented by dreams of a gorgeous redhead who's so much a part of him, she seems to be in his blood. When he meets Olivia face-to-face, long-buried memories begin to surface. She might be the answer to his prayers...or she might be the dead of him.
