What the Bride Wore by Jade Lee (Interview/Giveaway)

Wedded in Scandal (Bridal Favors, #1)Wedded in Sin (Bridal Favors, #2)What the Bride Wore (Bridal Favors, #3)

Long ago I discovered a book called Dragonborn. This book had dragons in it, point for book, and also a great paranormal story with romance. I was hooked. Then low and behold, this author writes historical romance too! How much better could it get?! That author is our guest today. Welcome Jade Lee!

Lexi: From dragons and werewolves to Regency gowns, Jade Lee has it all. Do you have a favorite series, or are they just too varied to choose? We wont tell...maybe you need a little more wine?

Jade: I definitely need more wine!  And honestly, every series I write is a favorite. Oddly enough, they’re not favorites when I actually write them.  At that point, I hate them, the books are terrible, and it’s going to end my career. I seem to be a hate-it-while-I-write-it kind of girl.  But in the conception stage, in the first blush of enthusiasm and then later on—after someone says they love it—then they come back into my favor. I start to love them again, in part because I’m onto the next project which is going to end my career.  Wow, I’m clearly dysfunctional. This is no way to run a career. Pass me more wine.

Lexi: I think my favorites of yours would change depending on what type of book I am loving right now. And this summer (well, any time really) is a great time to be reading historical romance. Which works out great because your newest release, What the Bride Wore released August 6th! What is your favorite part about this release?

Jade: I love the relationship between the two brothers – Will and Grant.  Will’s story is in Winning the Bride an e-only novella. The two brothers have fallen out for a variety of reasons, but the core is a basic personality difference. I know this problem because I have sisters with whom I will never see eye-to-eye. Fortunately, my sisters and I found each other again in adulthood. Will and Grant have to work harder at it, especially since someone is trying to kill Grant (they think). You know that moment in bad tv shows where one man says, I can’t imagine my brother trying to kill me!  Well gee. And then he goes on with his life?  There’s a great deal more trauma involved (IMO) in discovering your sibling wants to murder you. So I really wanted to write that and show the brothers working back toward one another. Thankfully their respective heroines are instrumental in getting them to work out their differences.

Plus, you know, I’ve been watching a lot of Supernatural. Brothers stories are really fascinating to me right now. Especially if they’re as hot as Sam and Dean!

Lexi: Your heroine is a recent widow, tear my heart out right now. Do you put yourself in your heroines shoes and let yourself go through the emotions they are experiencing?

Jade: Me? Sob my eyes out while living on coffee and chocolate? Of course not… Well, maybe, but don’t tell anyone!  Fortunately, I’m not a widow. But I am a paranoid, leap to the worst possible scenario type of person. So I have experienced the panic of thinking I’d lost my husband. And even more sad, my youngest sister did lose her husband. It was awful for all of us, but of course the worst for her. And as for depression – I am very familiar with those particular emotions from the horrible life-is-over time thru the long, gray days of yuck. Thankfully, I’ve also lived the heady days of love, lust, and more lust!  So don’t think this book is all sad and depressive.  I get the fun, hot times in there too!

Lex: I would be exhausted! It nearly wipes me out just reading about their lives, what they long for and lost. Maybe I need some more wine. Or I can just look at the pretty cover, that helps. Who did your cover? Do you know which photographer does them?

Jade: Sourcebooks did a FABULOUS job with my covers!  FABULOUS!  I do know that Kim Killion of Hot Damn Designs did Winning a Bride and also a great many of my backlist titles. (I got 17 books back when Dorchester/Leisure closed their doors. All of those were re-covered by Kim Killion).  But in general, the cover-gods have been very good to me!

Lexi: A stunning job, as usual. I love how your covers keep the theme of your series. And your books keep your theme of great stories decorated with romance. Thanks for stopping by to share some of your time Jade!

Jade: ANYTIME!  Especially since you keep feeding me wine!  Thank you for having me!

Jade Lee's hot Bridal Favors series is set in a daring, high-energy Regency world where deep longings, secret scandals, and the competition for social stature are all set against the glittering weddings of the season.
Grant Benton, Earl of Crowle, finally has the funds he always pretended to have, and what he wants now is a woman. That woman is Lady Irene Knopp, who spends her days helping debutantes plan their weddings. A recent widow, Irene longs for love again, but she's afraid to risk her heart, especially to the notorious Grant Benton.

JADE LEE
A USA Today Bestseller, JADE LEE has been scripting love stories since she first picked up a set of paper dolls. Ball gowns and rakish lords caught her attention early (thank you Georgette Heyer), and her fascination with the Regency began. And as a Taurus, she lives to pit a headstrong woman against a tortured hero just to watch them butt heads on the way to true love. Flesh wounds are rare, but the healing and laughter are real.
Now an author of more than 30 romance novels, she finally gets to set these couples in the best girl-heaven of all: a Bridal Salon! This way she gets to live out all her wedding fantasies, one by one. (Let’s be honest, what girl has only one idea for her dream wedding?) And don’t forget Jade’s other name, KATHY LYONS. That’s Jade’s lighter, contemporary side. She writes for Harlequin Blaze merging hawt sex and funny relationships into really great reads. Visit her website: http://jadeleeauthor.com/.

  3. I agree with the blogger and the other commenter: Your covers are terrific, Jade. As to relationships, the one I had to/have to work on constantly is the one with my sister. My brother and I were okay together, although not terribly close as he lives in completely different lifestyles and far away. My sister and I love each other, but we are just are too different to stay in each other's company for too long a time. So short visits are best. :-) At least we recognize what's going on and aren't at each other's throats. Like the reviewer on this blog, I didn't know you wrote Regency Romance--I thought you were just a paranormal writer. What fun to switch horses in your career...sure to keep you on your toes. I will get your first book in the wedding series so as to start at the beginning. jdh2690@gmail.com

  10. Hi Jade -

Last year I knew as soon as I saw the title Wedded in Scandal that I was going to love this series!

My Mom opened a Bridal Shop when I was in Junior High and I used to love going and watching the bride-to-be coming in and being transformed into a princess!

Since then I've always loved reading stories about Brides and not only about their joys but their disappointments as well!

After all with no hardships how can the "hero" rescue them?
