BIND AND KEEP ME by Cari Silverwood (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to author Cari Silverwood!

Writing the Sequel to Take Me, Break Me

Here is a small list of things I needed to get my sequel rolling along...

1/ My Characters
It’s a sequel, right? So I needed some sort of continuing story yet most dark erotic stories are single books. In particular, it’s difficult to continue a story when you have already made the hero and heroine fall in love. Since I really really wanted to have Klaus in this second book, Bind and Keep Me, there were two ways I could see to accomplish this – kill off Jodie, his partner from the first book. Or bring in a third ‘love interest’ and create a ménage. My street team threatened to do horrible things to me if I killed Jodie. They’re such a mob of wimps. And they scream damn loudly.
*sigh*
You can guess which way my story goes.

2/ A target
I needed an idea as to what I was aiming for. I’m a writer who hates redoing the same plot. I like to try doing something different with each book. My biggest aim with this series has been to escalate the darkness with each story. Even better, I’d love it if I can make the mindfuck, of both reader and my characters, worse with each book.
Mind games are amazingly fun to write.
Whether I have done that, I leave it to you to decide. But I certainly think the premise for Bind and Keep Me is darker. In the first book the relationship started out consensual – Jodie asks Klaus to set foot on this road into darkness, on this journey into BDSM that almost goes too far. However in Take Me, Break Me, it’s never clearly dubious consent. In this new book, you’ll find Klaus is faced with a terrible dilemma. What he chooses to do isn’t morally or legally right. Perhaps though, you might decide it was the right decision for him and Jodie?

3/ Time
Arrgh. Ever tried to write two books at once? This was the first time ever I truly wrote two stories at once. One was The Dom with the Clever Tongue – the fourth book in the Badass Brats series and a fun, light read, mostly, despite the BDSM. The second was Bind and Keep Me, a story that ventures to the edge of the dark abyss...and falls in.
Leia Shaw and Sorcha Black just about used a cattle prod on me to get me to write faster. When one of your co-writing partners is a Domme/ switch with a liking for S and m, life comes into sharp focus. Luckily she lives in Canada and I have big guard dogs with big teeth.
Nevertheless, I went mildly psychotic. Which was good, really.Looking at the bright side here. What better state of mind for writing a dark erotic capture fantasy than slight insanity with a side dish of schizophrenia?
This odd situation also gave me a pure and simple deadline, so I panicked and wrote like a chimpanzee on an overdose of caffeine. No, that’s not a bad simile, because it’s exceptionally close to what I am.

4/ I also needed…characters who are consistent.
By this, I especially mean Klaus. He was a big part of Take Me, Break Me and to most readers he came across as a good Dom, though he had flaws – but what man or human, doesn’t have those? Yet in this book, I needed him to take a huge step in a bad direction. I wanted it to seem plausible for the man I portrayed in Take Me, Break Me to become almost a bad guy.
So…for that I needed a solid, logical reason. Why would a seemingly ‘good’ man take such a step? I found a reason, which you will discover in the story.

5/ And last of all, I needed a hook into the third book.
I always planned to make this at least a trilogy and now that I knew there was a great audience for this sort of book, I wanted to end the story with a far better ‘hook’ than in the last story. I wanted it to lead into the events of the third book. All the way through, I kept that in mind. I can’t say what happens, but I’ve been threatened with bodily harm by my beta readers if I don’t write that third book.
If you read Bind and Keep Me, don’t forget to do up your safety belt, and be prepared to forgive Klaus…because if you don’t, he may just come stay at your house, and show you why you were bad ;)

How far would you go to protect your love and your life?
When two deaths turn his world upside down, Klaus must wrestle with a problem that goes soul deep. With Jodie it was capture fantasy but now he’s made the fantasy real, dragging her along as his accomplice. No one should feel so good about something so wrong.
Maybe his soul is darker than he feared. Maybe the rules shouldn't apply to him.

EXCERPT:
“I’m not yours.” Her answer was quiet and tremulous.

Such bravery in the face of overwhelming superiority.

I stopped with my palm pressing her upper back down onto the mattress. Enough pressure that she could feel my strength, enough so that she tensed and then, as I didn’t relent, she gave in, her head lowering, her body quivering. Was she a true submissive? I was fairly certain she was.

“You’re pretty, beautiful even. Desirable. Fuckable. I scare you because I like pain more than you can comprehend. I’m not going to kill you. I’m not going to carve off your flesh and eat it. But, little toy, I am going to hurt you more than you think you can take.”

She froze in the middle of inhaling. I smiled and grasped a big handful of those dark locks just above her nape. I levered her head back until she was arched and her breasts were no longer concealed beneath her. So I took one in the grip of my other hand. “Mine,” I whispered. “You’re mine whether you fucking want to be or not.”

I squeezed both her breast and the fistful of hair, and I leaned down to look into her fear-darkened eyes.

“You need to learn not to be afraid of pain,” I murmured. “And you know why?”

She swallowed and I felt her endeavor to shake her head. Long strands of her hair fell across her face.

“If you lose that fear of pain, you will lose some of your fear of me. Not all, some. I’m not your nemesis, girl, I’m just going to be your master.”
