First, I want to thank Reading Between the Wines for having me!
I definitely march to the beat of my own drummer. I’m a whopping 5’ 4” tall but I think my Viking heritage came through pretty strong. I’m tenacious on a good day. It takes a 6’ 8”, 300 lb construction worker to keep me in check ;) And my husband does a pretty good job getting me to chill out. I have more tools than a lot of men. I fish. I work on my own car. If I had a “P” instead of a “V”, I’d be a man. Okay, that might be pushing it, but only just.
So it should be no surprise to learn that I am a fan of a strong female lead. I think this is what drove me bonkers about FSOG. I try not to trash novels, or other authors. It’s just not nice. The leading lady was anything but what I look for in a heroine, which ultimately led to my reading displeasure. We often talk about the men in our books and having book boyfriends. But I…want a strong leading lady. Vulnerability is necessary of course. We can’t be all hard all of the time (insert juvenile snicker.)
When I wrote my Dirty White Candy series, I intended for the story to revolve around Candy’s sexual exploration and journey. Romance is not at the forefront of the story, though there is romance and a HEA ending. It was a fine line to walk, of course, making the story about the woman and her experiences, instead of the relationship.
I sincerely love that so many women are getting more involved and taking charge of their sex lives. While stigmas might still linger, gone are the oppressive Victorian Era puritanical ideologies that shamed women for enjoying sex at all!
What I love about writing in this genre is being among a group of tenacious, strong-willed and brilliant women, who grace us with the bedtime stories for our adult lives.
Okay, enough of the literary talk. Now something fun!
Candy, the main character in the Dirty White Candy series has an affinity for the Espresso Martini. As I say in the book this drink comes with a warning label. They’re strong and full of caffeine, so if you overdo it…you won’t be able to pass out.
Espresso Martini
2 shots freshly brewed espresso (Don’t be tempted to use instant powder – yuk)
1 shot Vanilla Vodka
1 shot Kahlua (I’ve made this with homemade Kahlua and OMG!)
1 shot Bailey’s Irish Cream
Pour over ice. Shake. Strain into martini glass. Float 2 whole beans on top. Sip – DON’T GULP.
