Vail...*dreamy sigh*. This mad elf prince has held this reader captive since the first moment he appeared on page and hissed at Lauren.
Heaton painted Vail as the ultimate evil, destroying his own people and seeking his brother’s death. But she also gave him a brother who couldn’t accept his madness. Lauren fought Vail but couldn’t kill him or accept that there remained nothing good in his soul. Crazy brother right? Vicious killing machine bent on attacking everything near him...until we glimpse the pain and torture in his eyes when he tries to resist the sorceress’s command.
That is what will hook you. Vail’s raw emotions. And in Tempted by a Rogue Prince Heaton delivers Vail’s heart on a platter, every gory exposed inch and you will not be able to keep yourself from shedding a tear and wanting to patch him back up.
Lucky for Vail, the new demon king whose dungeon he is residing in has another captive, one who has healing powers and happens to be his mate. The light sorceress from Claimed by a Demon King who helps King Thorne win, Rosalind. She has such a tender heart and repeatedly puts herself in the way of danger to help/heal Vail through the beatings both she and Vail receive at the hands of the demons.
The torture is unbearable. Heaton breaks her characters and then gives them hope in the form of an escape. Rosalind, Vail and the incubus Fenix flee the demon castle. Fenix, the cursed incubus you will next fall in love with, gives Rosalind a warning before teleporting away. That leaves the newly mated couple on their own.
The plot follows Vail and Rosalind through the Fifth realm ending with a confrontation with the angered new Demon King. Lovely plot, tightly written, but it is the emotions and healing that Heaton brings to her characters that make this a stand out book. The strength Vail and Rosalind show will make you want to cheer. And when they finally get their HEA, this is a romance, you will close your book with a smile.
