Before You by Amber Hart (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to author, Amber Hart!

A Day in the Life of Amber Hart:

I start my day the same way everyone else does. Copious amounts of caffeine. Or at least I assume that’s how other people start their day. I don’t know why they wouldn’t. After my brain transforms into something that doesn’t look like a sleepy mess, I get dressed and try to write. Okay, so, that’s a lie. I don’t always get dressed for my day. Mostly I walk around in pajamas and mumble about how it’s too early. Doesn’t everybody? Actually, believe it or not, I had a 9-5 at one point and totally know the pain of having to get dressed for real, like professional attire. All I can say now is thank god for pajamas. But writing, that’s the goal eventually.

Basically, a good writing day for me looks like this:

Caffeine. Staring at my computer screen. Getting a bolt of inspiration. Writing. And ta da! 3,000 words later I feel like a million bucks.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work like that. Sometimes I have not-so-super days where I encounter this rabid creature called Writers Block. It eats a hole in my concentration and then refuses to allow me a moment of clear thought. Simply put, the words don’t flow easily. They trickle slowly. Maybe a couple hundred words. Those are frustrating days. But they are not as bad as the days where no words come. For times like these, I pick up a book and read. Maybe a chapter. Maybe a paragraph. Maybe 100 pages. But almost always, that cures my lack of creativity long enough for me to write again.

I don’t write every day. And I am not one of those authors that can churn out a book a month, though I give major kudos to those who can…I also ask them kindly if they will please share their crazy-fast writing magic with me. So far, no such luck. I write about a book every 6 months. I try to write 5 days a week. I, you know, eat at points too. And by eat, I mean grab the closest edible thing next to me because taking time out to cook when I’m IN THE ZONE is impossible and not conductive to my writing. Or maybe I just enjoy easy comfort food. Who can say?

When my writing day is done, you can find me daydreaming or reading or eating chocolate. You can also find me in these magical time warps known as Facebook and Twitter where I also talk a lot about writing. And books. And chocolate. Meet you there?

Some say love is deadly. Some say love is beautiful. I say it is both.

Faith Watters spent her junior year traveling the world, studying in exquisite places, before returning to Oviedo High School. From the outside her life is picture-perfect. Captain of the dance team. Popular. Happy. Too bad it’s all a lie.

It will haunt me. It will claim me. It will shatter me. And I don't care.

Eighteen-year-old Diego Alvarez hates his new life in the States, but staying in Cuba is not an option. Covered in tattoos and scars, Diego doesn't stand a chance of fitting in. Nor does he want to. His only concern is staying hidden from his past—a past, which if it were to surface, would cost him everything. Including his life.

At Oviedo High School, it seems that Faith Watters and Diego Alvarez do not belong together. But fate is as tricky as it is lovely. Freedom with no restraint is what they long for. What they get is something different entirely.

Love—it will ruin you and save you, both.
