Lady Isobel is a Norman laird's daughter, living near the Scots border where her father, Lord Pembroke, is trying to keep the peace. But her mother was a Highlander and the man Isobel loves most of all is Laird Marcus McEwan, who has been bringing news of her mother's people for years. But now Isobel's father wishes her wed to an English nobleman, who will carry on his title. Isobel will wed no other man but her heart's desire—and that is one braw Highlander from her mother's homeland.

Laird Marcus McEwan has loved the feisty lass forever. For years, Marcus has tried to convince Lord Pembroke to allow him to wed his daughter. But the Norman lord will not allow it. Then ambushes and murders make it too dangerous for Marcus to reach a peaceful resolution.

Nothing goes as planned and keeping the lass for his own is fraught with danger, as they try to determine who was behind the killings. Isobel and Marcus will do everything in their power to ensure they are together as they have always vowed they would be.

Thoughts:
“Oh, how she loved the braw Highlander, his boldness as he'd regard her with his discerning gaze, and how she wished he'd touch her with his hands in the same places and not with just his eyes.”

HER HIGHLAND HERO by Terry Spear is an incredible Scottish romance laced with intrigue, suspense and danger with a very satisfying ending that left me positively beaming. I literally could not put this book down once I started it;  I stayed up well past my bedtime finishing it but it was well worth it!  It was PERFECT!  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!  HER HIGHLAND HERO is the sixth book in Terry's The Highlanders series;  however, as with all of Terry's books, even though there are interconnected characters, each book can be fully enjoyed as a standalone.   Even though not necessary, I highly recommend reading every book in this series as they are all fantastic.

This is the tale of Laird Marcus McEwan and Lady Isobel.  They had loved each other since they were children but Isobel's Norman father and backroom politics conspired against their union.  Marcus had asked Isobel's father repeatedly for her hand only to be refused each time unbeknownst to Isobel.   Isobel's parents had cared deeply for one another and Isobel wanted to have that type of relationship with Marcus.  Isobel said it best:  "Marcus is the only one I will agree to wed."  But... her father  has decreed that he has hand-picked seven noblemen to court her and that she will be wed within a fortnight to one of them.

Marcus McEwan is soooo swoonworthy!  He was a good man, strong and loyal, and he was in love with Isobel.  Isobel was a determined and feisty lass and she would have no other than Marcus for her mate.  Together, they personified charisma and sizzling chemistry and I LOVED them both as they fought to be together in a story filled with love, humor, danger, suspense and non-stop action.   Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this captivating read:

“Love me, Highlander, like I have always loved you."
"Aye, lass.”
---
“Come, move against me. We must sleep."
She sighed and nestled against him, and he thought he could not have been more pleased, except if he could have made love to her.
"We can, if you wish it," she said softly against his chest, as if she knew his private thoughts.
"Nay, you must rest and we must ride for far too long on the morrow. When we are home, I will ravage you every chance I get."
She smiled against his chest. 'I will insist you keep your promise."
He chuckled. "Of that, you can be assured.”
---
“I would do anything for you, lass. You only have but to ask. Sleep now, and we will leave soon."
"I am...ready for more," she whispered.
He laughed. "'Tis good to know. I have been ready forever.”
---

I had soooo many favorite scenes, but I'd have to say that one of my very favorites was when Isobel stole away from her father's castle to see Marcus after he'd been attacked leaving a dance there.  She was not someone to thwart once she set her mind to something.  When Marcus broke it to her that their love could never be...  Isobel was not discouraged.  She left him with positive thoughts that she would change her father's mind.  "I will wed no other," she vowed.   Then when she said good bye to her escort who had returned her to her father's castle, she left the escort with her vow that "she would marry Marcus and that he better not marry a Highland lass in the meantime or he would wish he hadn't."  That lass was the definition of SPUNK!

Terry's writing, as always, is exceptional.  The word building and character development are first rate.  I know when I pick up one of Terry's books, that I'm in for a treat and this book is definitely not an exception.   This is a nail biter teeming with perils and pitfalls that will keep the reader's adrenaline climbing tempered with the sweetest most epic love story ever.  I highly recommend HER HIGHLAND HERO to anyone who loves historical romance.   I wish I could give this one more than five wine glasses!  It deserves a sky full!
