Brrr...it's cold outside! Is anybody else ready to kick the cold to the curb and welcome in summer?! Even in Florida I am freezing my tushy off. Ya' know it's cold then! So let's warm up a bit with wine! Brilliant idea, no? This is a variation of the common warm sangria recipe but I cut it in half and added pears because, well, you can find a lot of them in the grocery right now and they go great with the other fruit!
Ingredients:
5 whole allspice
5 whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 rind of lemon cut into strips
1/2 cups orange juice
1 cup apple cider
¼ cup honey
3/4 cup sugar
1 (750-milliliter) bottles dry red wine
1/4 cup brandy
1 orange, sliced
1 apple, sliced
1 pear, sliced
Preparation:
Place, allspice, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and rind strips on a 5-inch square of cheesecloth. Gather edges of cheesecloth, and tie securely with kitchen string. Combine orange juice, apple cider, sugar, and spice bag in a 6-qt. slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH 2 hours. (If you don't have a cheese cloth to make a slice bag, you can add these in with the cider but you will have to strain the liquid after cooking.) Stir in wine, honey, brandy, and fruit slices. Cover and cook on LOW 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Discard spice bag before serving. Enjoy!
Yum! I printed this out & I will give it a try. Thanks!
