After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count.
To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores.
In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the stars. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, love and war collide in an all-out battle that will leave no question unanswered and no heart untouched.
Linda's Thoughts:
She had power over the most magnificent forces on Earth, but she still didn’t feel like she had power over the most important thing of all—her own heart.
GODDESS by Josephine Angelini was an awesome finale to the author's fantastic Starcrossed/Awakening series. It seems that the ebooks are the Starcrossed series and the hardcovers are the Awakening series - but they're the same series. I had previously read and reviewed STARCROSSED and DREAMLESS, the first and second books in this series. I was drawn to this trilogy because of its Greek mythology aspect. I've been fascinated by the heroes, gods and monsters in Greek mythology for as long as I can remember. This YA saga uniquely mixes mythology with conflicted romance, breath-taking action, treachery, and gripping suspense. I loved it!
This is absolutely a series you must read in order. Josephine Angelini is truly a genius storyteller and this series is fantastic. Those starting the series now can read the books straight through and that's a huge plus.
GODDESS picks up right where DREAMLESS left off. It continues the story of teenage Helen Hamilton who lives with her father on Nantucket Island. She is extremely beautiful having been born with the face of Helen of Troy. She is a Scion, which is a descendant of a Greek god and a mortal.
This is a YA romance - there's some kissing, but no hanky panky. There's a love triangle with Helen, Orion and Lucas. Orion and Lucas are both wonderful, sexy heroes. In this installment, Helen faces her hardest test yet - to stay away from Lucas. She must also prepare for an epic battle against the Titans and she must quickly master her new powers before she and her friends are wounded or slaughtered.
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes:
“I chose love—I chose you over everything that was offered to me.”
---
“The only time you ever hurt me is when you leave me.”
---
There was no "eventually", and Helen knew it. Even after she'd touched the water from the River Lethe and couldn't remember her own name, she'd still remembered Lucas. She'd never get over him. Lucas was it for her.
GODDESS is mind-blowing from start to finish with heartbreaking conflicts, brutal betrayals, passion, engaging characters, dangerous perils and astronomical surprising twists! This installment is an action-packed roller-coaster ride and features a plethora of Greek gods and goddesses -even the Kracken makes an appearance! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoy YA romances and epic fantasies - especially if you also enjoy tales giving prominence to spectacular Greek mythology!
