Lexi: We have a treat today, our guest author is here to talk about book one of her new series: The Reawakened. Welcome Colleen Houck!
Colleen: Thanks, Lexi! Happy to be here.
Lexi: Welcome to the blog, Colleen! This is an exciting time for you with the release of Reawakened. How do you feel now that your new series is officially begun and out in the world?
Colleen: It's been a long time coming. It's incredibly hard to leave a series behind, especially your first, and start something new. It's almost like breaking up with the first boy you ever loved. It's really tough. But, at the same time, it's also super exciting to delve into a new world and bring my fans along for the ride. My hope is that my fans will come to love my mummies just as much as they do my tigers. There's also the nail biting, edge-of-your-seat feeling of hoping the book does as well on the market. I feel more nervous about this one than I did over the launch of Tiger's Curse. There's all these expectations that come with a new series.
Lexi: I have heard great things about Reawakened. A tale of a young girl in the right place at the right time to help, an Egyptian prince, and a lot of Egyptian mythology. Any kind of mythology scores high for me but we don’t often get visit Egypt. So kudos for delving into a new country and beliefs! What drew you to Egyptian mythology?
Colleen: I've always been fascinated with Egyptian mythology. There's a certain amount of mystery and danger that goes along with it. In Reawakened, I wanted to switch things up and have the mummies be the good guys instead of evil. Mythology has always been very interesting for me. I've loved it since I first discovered it in middle school. Before that, it was fairy tales. I've always been drawn to happily ever afters and wonderful stories of adventure.
Lexi: It appears that Amon, the mummy that woke up and needs to get back to the Valley of the Kings to awaken his brothers, is quite the gentleman and handles the sudden time change well. What was your favorite scene for Amon? If we give you more wine do we get a spoiler? Wait…we just love to share wine, spoilers or not. *tops off glass*
Colleen: Oh my favorite Amon moment comes at the end of the book for sure. This is when all the feels happen. There are sweet moments along the way but the end of the book is a very emotional one for me. The most fun piece to write was the mummy out of water, the opening of the book when Amon sees NYC for the first time. It was cool to explore what a guy who hasn't been alive for a thousand years would think upon first seeing the city.
Lexi: Oh Amon, I like the sound of him already. And I am looking forward to his romance with Lily. You have a lot going on in the story, what with them facing the shape-shifting baddie, but you have also taken the time to develop a believable relationship between these two. Do you have a favorite moment between Amon and Lily?
Colleen: There are a couple of times when they "feast" together in the book. Amon loves eating since it isn't something he gets to do often and he teaches Lily the delight of enjoying something as simple as a Danish. Each time he does it's a reminder that he's on borrowed time and that they need to make the most of the time they have together. Then there's the dance scene. It's themed in a similar way. Amon helps Lily to appreciate finding joy in the moment. This is one of my favorite things about Amon.
Lexi: Egyptian mythology mixed with current times and romance, yes please! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, Colleen. Congratulations on the release of Reawakened and we hope to see you soon for book two!
Colleen: Absolutely! Thanks for having me visit!

by Colleen Houck
Hardcover, 400 pages
When seventeen-year-old Lilliana Young enters the Metropolitan Museum of Art one morning during spring break, the last thing she expects to find is a live Egyptian prince with godlike powers, who has been reawakened after a thousand years of mummification.
And she really can't imagine being chosen to aid him in an epic quest that will lead them across the globe to find his brothers and complete a grand ceremony that will save mankind.
But fate has taken hold of Lily, and she, along with her sun prince, Amon, must travel to the Valley of the Kings, raise his brothers, and stop an evil, shape-shifting god named Seth from taking over the world.
From New York Times bestselling author Colleen Houck comes an epic adventure about two star-crossed teens who must battle mythical forces and ancient curses on a journey with more twists and turns than the Nile itself.
