THE HEAT IS ON
When Rory Arish and his two fiery dragon siblings are run out of their ancestral Irish home, it seems their luck has run out-until they arrive in Boston and find a paranormal-friendly apartment building. Finally, Rory has a place to call home. There's only one problem: Rory's new lair has simultaneously been rented to an infuriating woman who is as stubborn as she is beautiful and will not leave 'her' apartment matter how steamed he may be...
AND SPARKS FLY
Amber McNally is a down-on-her-luck flight attendant. She needs this apartment, and not even a fire-breathing dragon with his Irish charm and scorching good looks is going to scare her away. Holing up in their respective corners, a battle of wills ensues. Who will be the first to blink...or give in to their off-the-charts chemistry and decide to make this unorthodox living arrangement a little more permanent?
Linda's Thoughts:
"Wait," she whispered breathlessly.
"I want us to come together."
"What's wrong with you comin' twice, luv?"
The description for I DREAM OF DRAGONS by Ashlyn Chase sounded right up my alley with a veritable plethora of the elements that normally entrance me: dragons, leprechauns, magic, vampires, witches, goddesses, a medieval castle, etc. Unfortunately, I had trouble getting into it. There were a slew of humorous segments, an immediate attraction, Irish folklore, off-the-wall-crazy shenanigans.- but it all seemed a mish mash until about half-way through when it started coalescing. I'm so glad that I didn't give up as that thought did cross my mind. Once it came together, I enjoyed the story and its quirky diverse characters. Perhaps the problem was just the mood I was in when I was reading. It does appear that this series is a spin-off from another series by the same author - so perhaps it would have been beneficial if I'd read that previous series first.
This is the story of Amber McNally, a burned-out flight attendant, and Rory Arish, a sexy Irish dragon with the most delightful brogue. Rory and his sisters are falsely accused of stealing a leprechaun's gold. Despite their pleadings of being innocent, the short but powerful leprechauns throw the three dragon-shifter siblings adrift from the Irish isle and ban them from returning. The trio find their way to America where they discover two apartments for rent in a complex that caters to non-humans - it was a perfect arrangement allowing one rental for the two sisters to share and one for Rory.
At the same time, Amber's life takes a crazy turn. Because of her flying experience, she is recruited by Mother Nature to be a one of her muses. Her responsibility is to respond when travelers issue an SOS. Amber needs an apartment and makes a down payment on the very same digs that Rory has claimed setting up a battlefield of sorts.
One of them must go but neither volunteers to do so. When it is decided that the first one to leave, loses, the two settle down for a long siege. In the meantime, Mother Nature seems to have teamed up with Cupid as the chemistry between the two opponents heats up too!
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this cute read:
"I wish the Irish had never invented whiskey," Pat said. Mr. O'Malley smirked, "The Irish didn't invent it. God did. It was his way of keepin' the Irish from takin' over the world."
---
Finn stood abruptly. "We need to follow 'em."
"But aren't they followin' us? If we go after them, the five of us will be goin' around in circles."
---
"If you want to mimic spoons in a drawer, I promise I won't think anythin' of it."
She realized that curling the same way they'd fit much better. She sighed. "Okay, but I get to be the big spoon. I don't want to accidentally bump into your..."
"Knife?" he supplied.
Once I became vested in the story, I found it to be a delightfully charming, steamy romantic comedy. This is the first book I've ever read by Ashlyn Chase and I'm looking forward to reading MY WILD IRISH DRAGON, the next book in this series, and seeing where the author takes this series with its colorful array of paranormal characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys whimsical paranormal romances!
