Fate has thrown two sworn enemies...
Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends with a death. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and for nearly ruining his career.
Into each other's arms...
Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it's no joke; the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension.
Linda's Thoughts:
“He looked exactly the same as he did the last time she’d seen him three years ago: tall, dark, and scowling.”
SOMETHING ABOUT YOU by Julie James and performed by Karen White is the first installment in Julie's FBI/US Attorney romantic suspense series. It was repeatedly recommended to me that I should check out the combo of Julie James and Karen White after I posted on a Goodreads Audiobook group that I couldn't get enough of the pairing of Jill Shalvis and Karen White. I cannot thank those people enough as they were right on! I absolutely loved the superb blend of hot romance and gripping suspense that I discovered with SOMETHING ABOUT YOU.
This was the story of former Army Special Forces and current FBI Special Agent Jack Pallas and Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde. The two share a prior history. Jack had captured national headlines three years ago when he'd commented that Cameron had her head up her ass. The initial airing of his remark was seen by thirty million viewers. As a result of the resultant publicity, Jack was transferred to Nebraska and thereby blamed Cameron for ruining his career.
As the story began, Cameron was having some renovation work done at her home and was treating herself with a relaxing night at a luxury hotel. Instead, she became the only witness to the murder of a U.S. senator. Then, when she thought things couldn’t get any worse, her nemesis Jack Pallas was assigned as the lead investigator on the case.
'Tall, dark and scowling' agent Jack Pallas who drives a Triumph motorcycle is one smokin' hot male lead! He is sinfully sexy. I feared my phone to be in danger of spontaneously combusting during some of Jack's and Cameron's swoon-worthy scenes. I know I was! Because the couple have to spend a lot of time together during the homicide investigation, they unintentionally ferret out that they really don't dislike each other that much after all. On the contrary, they may discover that it's just the opposite!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that some of the secondary players were near on par with the hero and heroine. I seriously fan-girled with Wilkins, Collin, Amy and the two night-shift officers watching over Cameron. Their characters were each and every one fantastic.
Karen White's narration was spot-on, as always. I cannot say enough about how impeccably professional and perfectly accomplished her performances consistently are. I'm proud to join the legions who unabashedly proclaim the praises of Karen's matching with Julie James books. This audio was soooo good that I've already sprung for the entire rest of this series in audio!!!! If you enjoy listening to audiobooks and haven't listened to Karen, you are, without a doubt, missing out!
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this awesome listen:
“Where is Wilkins, anyway?" Cameron asked.
"In the living room, being accosted by eighteen women who think he's a stripper. I thought it was best to duck in here."
"So much for never leaving a man behind."
"If he starts screaming, I'll lay down a cover fire and go pull him out.”
---
“My God, Jack - with a look like that, you two should just get a room. And try not to pick the one with a dead body next to it this time.”
---
"He stole another look, for security purposes, and watched as the sweater once again slid away from her collarbone, inching down, taunting him, teasing him, dipping lower and lower, revealing creamy ivory skin and that delicate gray silk strap he could rip away with his teeth.
A shoulder. He was going crazy over a fucking shoulder."
The dialogue was smart, funny, steamy and true to life. I positively ate up the deliciously sexy character interactions and the story did not lack in thrilling edge-of-my-seat moments. This listen was very difficult to put down and, if I had one complaint, it was that I did not want it to end. I highly recommend SOMETHING ABOUT YOU to anyone who enjoys spicy romantic suspense.
