It’s the exciting first installment in a trilogy about HOT grizzly bear shifters who are struggling to keep their inner monsters under control. The shifters need their mates to help them find a peaceful state between their animal and human sides so they don’t go feral. This is the story of Carl Carman, the Maximus alpha of the Gladwin Grizzly Shifters Mid-Michigan Clan, and Becca Weitz, a human who is blissfully unaware that there are paranormal elements in this world. She is raising her sister’s son and running a bakery.

Carl stepped up as Maximus eight years ago after he'd finished college. He has grand dreams of innovating and being smarter in how the clan operates, but he is meeting resistance from clan members. He definitely does not want to be like his grandfather and uncle who held onto power by terrorizing their own clan – including Carl. He’s under pressure to mate and knows he should mate with a willing, powerful she-bear. BUT, the human, Becca, both calms and excites him. Will she give their relationship a chance?

Becca has been raising her nephew since he was a baby. She’s an expert at decorating cakes. But, her life changes big-time from the normal she craves when her teenage charge goes missing. Can things get any worse? The answer is a big YES as she’s kidnapped and shockingly learns that her nephew is not a human, but a were bear!

Carl and Becca make a great couple. Their interactions are sweet, steamy and feisty! Their alliance was dynamic. They certainly had a set-your-sheets-on-fire chemistry, but Becca craved normalcy and Carl was an alpha male with a clan who depended upon him. When push came to shove, Becca certainly showed that you don’t have to be a shifter to be ferocious!

I met this author at the Coastal Magic Convention at Daytona Beach earlier this year and have been dying to read one of her books since! I finally did and really enjoyed it! Kathy’s writing is fluid and the plotline is captivating. Plenty of action sequences and suspense galore make for a well-rounded read. I can't wait to read the next book, LICENSE TO SHIFT, which is already on my reader!
