Dark Alpha's Hunger is the seventh paranormal romance novel in New York Times bestselling author Donna Grant's Reapers series featuring a brotherhood of elite assassins who wage war on the Fae at Death's behest--and the women who change their hearts.
There is no escaping a Reaper. I am an elite assassin, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. And when Death says your time is up, I’m coming for you…
Where Death leads, I follow. Nothing will stop me from my duty – not even the darkness that claims me. It’s the music that leads me from the dark, returning me to my brethren and a new foe that has risen. Learning who hunts Thea could be the key to unraveling what we need to know to defeat our enemy. The Half-Fae’s music stirs a passion within me that I’ve never known. For her, I will break my vow of silence. For her…I will risk everything.
Linda's Thoughts:
Her music is magic…
Dark Alpha’s Hunger by Donna Grant is the sixth book in her Reaper series. In this series, Death is a beautiful woman who is judge and jury to the Fae. The Reapers are the executioners. No Fae can know who the Reapers are. If they find out, they’re killed.
As a preface, newbies to this series should know that it’s really important to read these books in order – even more so with this installment. Grant does provide some recap, but, honestly, there isn’t very much of it in this particular book. Also, you should know that her Reaper series should be read in conjunction with her Dark Kings’ series as the timelines, the series’ arc and multiple characters are shared between the two series. Important revelations that affect both series can come from either.
In Dark Alpha’s Hunger, Grant gets right into the story. The hero and supporting players are known; the heroine is a new introduction. If you have been reading the series, you would know that Eoghan is a Reaper who had taken a vow of silence after a traumatic event. Later, he sacrificed himself for the greater good. He’s been in a very dark, seemingly inescapable place always on the run from a dark force who has been imprisoned with him. Time has no meaning to him until he hears our halfling heroine’s music. It soothes his soul and calls to him. He follows the sound to a portal stone in Ireland and escapes! But, her music not only calls to our brawny, tortured silver-eyed hero, it’s also a beacon to the dark. She succeeds at saving him, but can he now save her?
This book has a different feel to it when compared to the previous books. I’m not certain I like the change – but, I did enjoy Eoghan’s and Thea’s hot insta-romance. This story seems to serve as a turning point. While Bran is still the enemy, there are new revelations, six new Reapers make their entrance and, thankfully, while Death is still a victim, she no longer seems as resigned to her fate as she regains some much-needed purpose.
Following please find a few of my favorite lines from Dark Alpha’s Hunger:
From the moment their mouths met, Eoghan knew there was no turning back.
---
“You look at me as if you want nothing else but me,” Thea said.
---
He was unsure of the coming storm, but he knew he wanted to be in it with her. Only her.
---
“I want to see you. Every glorious inch.”
He immediately removed the rest of his clothes.
I continue to keep the faith that the Reapers will bring Bran to his knees before Death keels over. Fans of the series will not want to miss this novella as it does seem to take the series in a new direction. LOL! Here I thought this series was nearing a breakpoint and, voila, we get a bunch of new characters! Yes, it’s a game-changer. Dark Alpha’s Hunger is a quick read that packs a big page-turning punch. I can’t wait to see where Grant takes this series now.
