Play with fire, pay the price.

Leila’s years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn’t learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin…

Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both…

Crystal's Thoughts:
With Leila's death, her and Vlad thought that they'd already faced the worst at the hands of their enemies, but their relationship is about to be put through the ultimate trial by fire...good thing Vlad is fireproof.

It's been four long years since I've immersed myself in the Night Huntress world. I think the end of Cat and Bones depressed me so much that I didn't want to dive back in without them, but I am glad that I finally picked this series up again. It took some time for me to get back into Vlad and Leila's story, and remember what happened in their last book. Once I did though, I enjoyed it immensely.

Leila and Vlad are adjusting to married life, and while Leila easily rolls with the punches, Vlad struggles with having another person that he loves targeted by his enemies. Despite Vlad's over-protectiveness and Leila's independence, these two work beautifully together. Their relationship is put to the test though when Szilagyi captures and tortures Leila. Talk about an emotional roller-coaster. Vlad and Leila both tugged on my heartstrings with their strength and perseverance in this novel. I won't get into the details but the entire story-line is darker and more dangerous then anything we've seen for these two yet, and the plot is brimming with shocking spins and turbulent twists. I recommend having a large glass and full wine bottle on hand while reading.

I really loved the growth of Leila and Vlad's relationship here as well. Vlad the Impaler is in full force for a good majority of the story, but we get plenty of glimpses into Vlad's more vulnerable side as well. I couldn't have loved him more when he began to open up to Leila. Oh...especially when he admitted his deepest and darkest secret. Dying. You'll have to read to find that one out.

Some of my favorite Night Huntress characters make an appearance in Bound by Flames, which was fabulous. I miss Cat, Bones, and crew dearly. All in all, I am so glad that I got back into this series again. Bound by Flames was an entrancing tale replete with non-stop action and explosive chemistry between characters.  I am looking forward to the final book for Vlad and Leila...and then on to Ian. Eep! I dare you not to love a Jeaniene Frost book!

*Note: If you have not read Up from the Grave and but are planning to, this book does have a few spoilers in it for Cat & Bones fans.
