It will take a miracle to survive Christmas…
Victoria is about to have a baby. But not just any baby, a wolf-dragon hybrid, and her overprotective mother-in-law isn’t giving her any peace. She means well, but by the time Victoria finds herself climbing out a bathroom window to escape her overly-vigilant family, she realizes something’s got to give. And if they don’t back off, more than just the holiday will be ruined.
Join the crazy, fun Petronilla dragon clan for A Very Dragon Christmas and find out if their holiday season—and their unique family bond—can be saved!
Linda's Thoughts:
"Are we going to have a Christmas baby after all..?"
A Very Dragon Christmas by Katie Reus is a holiday-themed novella-length story in her Darkness series. Katie’s books generally work well as stand-alones; however, that does not hold true for A Very Dragon Christmas. Since her Darkness series is so popular, she wrote this entry as a holiday treat for her readers who crave more of their favorite characters. If you have not read the previous books, do yourself a favor and skip this tale until you’ve caught up with the series. If you are among her legions of Darkness fans, A Very Dragon Christmas is your Christmas dream come true as previous characters are revisited and a few new ones are introduced.
The birth of Drake’s and Victoria’s first wolf-dragon hybrid child is imminent. As Christmas approaches, the dragons are gathering and making celebratory plans. Victoria, though, is cranky and miserable in her thirteenth month of pregnancy – the “longest pregnancy ever” - with no sign that her precious cargo is preparing to make his or her grand entrance. To add to her stress, Victoria senses that Drake is hiding something from her. In addition, Arya, her domineering mother-in-law, is over-protective, continually hovering and not affording Victoria a moment of peace. Something has to give!
A Very Dragon Christmas is told from multiple points-of-view. It’s sweet, emotional and romantic, but not steamy. There’s a bit of drama and suspense for good measure. You can expect plenty of humorous moments throughout as it exhibits all the Christmas feels from whacky decorations to ridiculously ugly Christmas sweaters.
Following please find a few of my favorite lines from A Very Dragon Christmas:
“Dragon females were the deadliest warriors, after all.
---
Every house on the street had some sort of decorations, including one house with a life-sized Santa on the roof being led by blow-up dragons instead of reindeer.
---
“I know what might make me feel better,” she said, smiling as he let out a low rumble in his throat, his dragon peeking out in his gaze, telling her he wanted to play too.
Drake cupped the side of her face gently, stroking a thumb over her cheek. “Aren’t you supposed to meet my mom and aunts for dinner?”
She lifted a shoulder, the sheet rustling slightly under the movement. “I can be a little bit late.”
Laughing lightly, he leaned forward and pressed his lips over hers for a far too short kiss. “If we start something now, you won’t be just a little late. You won’t make it at all.”
I love this series - so diving into this novella was a truly blissful way to spend a few hours. For anyone who has read and enjoyed the Darkness Series, A Very Dragon Christmas will make a great holiday read!
