Power can change a person…

For months Molly Sullivan endures the inexplicable: electrical surges, car breakdowns, visions. She even wonders if she might be the cause… and wonders if she might be crazy. Then she discovers her husband has cheated on her. Again. Now Molly realizes she is a newly awakening witch and a woman pushed over the edge.

Revenge can shape a person…

Josiah Mason is a Powerful witch and the leader of a secret coven with a shared goal: to destroy an ancient enemy who has ruined many lives. Josiah lost years to this man, and his sole focus is revenge. He’s prepared for every contingency—except encountering a beautiful new witch who understands nothing of the immense Power building within her or the attraction she wields over him.

Danger can bring them together…

When divorcing her husband, Molly uncovers a dangerous secret he’s willing to kill to protect. She turns to Josiah for help, and they discover a connection between Molly’s husband and Josiah’s enemy.

As they work together, a spark ignites between them that threatens to become an inferno. But Molly is done compromising herself for any man, and Josiah’s mission is his top priority. And the enemy is cunning, cruel, and drawing ever closer.

As the danger escalates, so does the tension between them. Is a lasting relationship possible? Will either of them live long enough to try?

Linda's Thoughts:
“We should be opening a bottle of champagne. It’s not every day one runs into an awakening witch.”

Huge Thea Harrison fan that I am, when I discovered that she had a new series in the works focusing on witches and connected to her Elder Races’ universe, I knew, without a doubt, that I’d be onboard. American Witch, the opening volley in her planned trilogy, is a solid start to that new series teeming with magic and suspense with danger lurking at every turn.

This is the story of Molly Sullivan, a classic stay-at-home homemaker, and Josiah Mason, the new ace DA and a powerful witch.  As the story opens, our heroine finds a pair of scandalously feminine, dark purple panties in the bed she shares with her husband. The panties are a size smaller than what she wears and most definitely aren’t hers. Chaos ensues in a riotous chain of events.

Josiah is the leader of a coven solely focused on revenge against a bad villain. When Molly is pushed over the edge by her philandering husband, her witch awakens. But, until she learns to harness her power, she is a danger to herself and others and is an unfortunate complication to Josiah’s mission. However, Molly is determined not to compromise herself for any man again - even though the chemistry between them is strong - and Josiah must remain riveted on his mission. Meanwhile the villain comes ever closer…

The main characters are mature adults – not the typical “spring chickens” seen in most romances. They met under unusual circumstances as Josiah is a witness to the implosion of Molly’s marriage at a dinner party held hours after Molly found the errant panties. I will admit that it took me a bit to warm up to Josiah. But, once his back-story is disclosed and it became evident how much he had suffered, his overbearing, abrasive male persona is thankfully replaced by his softer, caring side. After all is said and done, they’re likable, strong, stubborn and courageous.

The story is teeming with interesting supporting characters including those from two covens. There’s also a former friend and a plethora of players aligned with Molly’s husband and the main villain. Hopefully we’ll see more of most of them in the succeeding books.

Following please find a few of my favorite lines from American Witch:

I want to savor you like a five-course dinner in a world-class restaurant and take all night.”
---
Molly, Molly, he thought. What a spectacular inconvenience you’ve turned out to be.
---
She was the most dangerous woman he had ever met, and she didn’t yet know a fraction of what she was truly capable of.

Thea weaves another addictive magical spell with American Witch. Readers can expect a roller coaster ride with unexpected twists along the way. While it’s not action-packed, there’s plenty of maneuvering and an epic battle that will leave you hankering for more. Watching Molly transform from a perfect wife to a resourceful scorned woman  to a witch to be reckoned with is an addictive amazing journey. I can’t wait to see where Thea takes this series next.
