Thea Harrison whisks readers on a thrilling new Dragos and Pia adventure with The Unseen, a novella in her amazing Elder Races series. The Unseen is also the first of four linked stories which Thea has entitled the Chronicles of Rhyacia. This opener relates their departure from Earth and the Wyr demise and their arrival in the Other land of Rhyacia. As you may expect, things don’t go as planned and many of our Elder Races favorites arrive to help.

The Cuelebre family has held a special place in my heart since they were first introduced in Dragon Bound, the start of Thea’s Elder Races’ series. Dragos has mellowed over time and leaves no doubt that Pia is his heart. Pia shows off her backbone of steel as she takes no prisoners. Their interactions still leave me swooning in a puddle. The couple’s Stinkpot aka Hellspawn steals the show along with Skeeter, a rescue pup.  The two certainly provide much comic relief.

He looked at her with his eyelids half closed, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. She shrugged impatiently. “What?”

“I love it when you get dictatorial,” he murmured.

He added, “And we’re having sex tonight, goddammit.”

The last of her odd sadness broke apart as she laughed.

And there it was, that moment, with happiness dancing in her aquamarine gaze and the air around her effervescent with her Power – that moment was what the dragon would do anything and kill anyone for.

That moment was what he lived for.

That one, and then the one after that, and the one after that, all grouped together in his mind like luminous pearls on a string. Each one came to him new, a perpetual gift of joyful surprise, and as rich as he was, and as many jewels as he’d acquired, those moments were the sum total of the dragon’s true treasure.

I’m happy dancing that Thea has returned to the couple who started it all with this mini-series-within-a-series and included many of our previous favorite characters in the mix. This tale kept me alternately chuckling and holding-my-breath-on-the-edge-of-my-seat. Thea has warned readers in advance that the first three tales will end with cliffhangers and, indeed, the cliffhanger in The Unseen is a doozy. Thankfully, Thea has also promised that the stories in this mini-set will be released quickly so our wait will be short. I cannot wait to dive into the next release, the Adversary.
