A queen and her rebel prince turn from enemies to lovers while evil forces plot to destroy them in this lush romantic fantasy.

Following The Orchid Throne, Conri and Lia’s marriage of convenience has turned into an uneasy alliance. If only the two leaders could agree on something. Driven by revenge, Conri wants to attack Emperor Anure before the tyrant gets to them first. But Lia needs to keep Calanthe safe, and refuses to sacrifice her kingdom. Their ongoing battle for control has built up tension they’re both more than happy to release in bed, the only place where they find common ground. But Conri and Lia are developing deeper feelings for each other that are complicating matters. In the second book in the Forgotten Empires trilogy, Conri and Lia find their loyalties torn, and with Emperor Anure’s threat growing, will they be able to risk everything with each other before it’s too late?

Lexi's Thoughts:
In my review of THE ORCHID THRONE I’d mentioned that we had to meet the evil emperor, Anure, in book two because his head was about to explode….and boy did it ever in THE FIERY CROWN!!!!

Wow! What an ending...I’m still cringing. It was epicly powerful and the words The End came far too quickly.

But I’m getting ahead of myself, because there’s a lot of book that happens before the ending! Lia and Con are married, but the only part of being married that works for them is in the bedroom. There’s a lot of mistrust and lack of teamwork, which is crazy because they both want the same things. Well, in essence they want the same things, they just can’t see it because they’re both so tunnel-vision on their goals.

And when you’ve got tunnel vision, you miss seeing where your greatest strengths lie…and for Con and Lia that’s within each other. A lesson they don’t exactly learn before Anure shows up.

Anure. The evil emperor we’ve been waiting for. Kennedy’s writing ability shines in how much you end up hating this character. Anure and his henchmen need to suffer an agonizing, gruesome, slow death!

There's more in here than just amazing characters though, this is fantasy romance which means magic! The orchid ring that Lia has is truly spectacular and the land of Calanthe incredibly powerful from it's movable barrier reef and tides. The land is rich with it, but there's also wizards that can bend and wield it.

Ambrose, who arrived with ConrΓ, is still one of my favorite characters. Maybe because he's your typical kind of wizard: helpful in a very cryptic way and usually never at the right time...only because the other characters are blind to what he's telling them. But Ambrose has wizards too, gah that evil emperor again!!

This is a fabulous fantasy-romance read. If you haven’t read book one, pick it up and then jump right into THE FIERY CROWN!!
